Shell Passport Program Update
Shell announced that they will implement a cloud mobile payment application (app) for Shell sites by June 2017. Through cloud mobile payment app, consumers can use a smartphone or mobile device app to complete their payment transaction. All Shell sites must be equipped with Loyalty and Mobile Payment modules as well as the 2D scanner. Shell is instructing sites to purchase Gilbarco’s Xenon 1900GSR-2-EZ scanner, PA02710513 scannerthrough Gilbarco Distributors. Since the cloud mobile payment app works through the consumer’s mobile device, no specific hardware is required in the dispenser. The Shell customer must sign up to use Shell’s Mobile Application and indicate a method of payment.
- Forecourt: At the fueling location, the consumer will open Shell’s cloud mobile application. The cloud mobile app sends a security code to consumer’s device to enter at the dispenser to verify that the consumer is actually at the dispenser. The cloud mobile app then advises the Enhanced Dispenser Hub (EDH) to authorize fueling. When the consumer finishes fueling, the dispenser will send the complete transaction information to EDH.
- Inside the store: The consumer opens Shell’s cloud mobile app. The cloud will send a QR code to consumer’s mobile device, and then the Cashier will scan the QR code with a 2D scanner to authorize the payment.
- Complete the transaction: The EDH advises Shell’s cloud mobile app of transaction completion and details. The cloud mobile app charges the customer’s chosen payment method. A receipt may be sent to the consumer’s mobile device.
