Mobile Payment for Shell-Branded Locations
There is confusion in the field regarding the availability of Near Field Communication (NFC) at Shell sites. NFC is one method consumers can use to present their payment. Rather than swiping a mag-stripe card or inserting an EMV chip, consumers indicate their payment data using NFC by tapping their smartphone that enables ApplePay, AndriodPay, GooglePay, SamsungPay, or an NFC-enabled bank card.
Note: Shell has turned off consumer’s ability to use NFC inside the store. Gilbarco Veeder-Root understands that Shell plans to turn on NFC inside the store although the date is not known. Shell also does not allow NFC at the dispenser and has indicated it will not change for now.
Passport supports NFC as a method of presenting payment inside the store and at the dispenser for all networks that allow it. In the case of Shell-indoors (once Shell turns it back on), Passport will support NFC transactions, but the Vantage box controls accepting NFC since it controls network payment processing and PIN Pads.
